What is high-throughput sequencing?
High-Throughput Sequencing (NGS), also known as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), is a technology that can sequence a large number of nucleic acid molecules (DNA or RNA) quickly and efficiently. This technology can simultaneously measure hundreds of thousands to millions of nucleic acid sequences at a time, greatly increasing data yield, shortening the time for whole-genome sequencing from years to days or even hours, and significantly reducing the cost of sequencing per base.
At present, the application of NGS has covered almost all levels of life science and clinical medicine, including genome, transcriptome, epigenome, genetics and reproduction, oncology, infection and public health, agriculture, and so on. The emergence of this technology has greatly promoted the progress of life science and medical research, and provides strong technical support for precision medicine, biological breeding, ecological monitoring and other fields.
